I recently came across the website https://utah40over40.com/, and some of the statistics they shared really hit home.
Did you know that in the U.S., one in four Americans is a woman over 40? That's a staggering 83 million strong. On average, female entrepreneurs start at age 42, and female CEOs reach their roles at age 48. These numbers aren’t surprising --- they reflect the incredible power and drive women bring to business later in life.
In fact, 68% of women business owners are between 40 and 59. Every single day, 1,800 new women-owned businesses are created in the U.S.
I became an entrepreneur at 45, after what I like to call my Entrepreneurial Exodus. After years of chasing titles and climbing the corporate ladder, I hit a plateau. The culture no longer resonated with me, and the thrill of challenge had faded. I wanted to build something that truly aligned with my values and vision --- a business where I could fully embrace my passions. There’s something transformative about your 40s: you know yourself, your confidence is solid, and you’re ready to step into something deeply meaningful.
Starting The Revenue Method® wasn’t just about a career change; it was about designing a life on my own terms, a life where I could use every skill I had honed over the years. When you’ve spent so long mastering your craft, there’s nothing more powerful than bringing that expertise into a business of your own. In your 40s, you possess a unique blend of wisdom and energy that allows you to tackle challenges with creativity and practicality.
Starting a business in your 40s isn’t just about ambition; it’s about purpose. You have a vision informed by experience, and now you have the skills to make it real. Women over 40 are breaking stereotypes, creating impact, and paving the way for future generations. Embrace this time in your life --- it’s a powerful period of growth, achievement, and self-discovery.
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received along the way is to always take advice from other entrepreneurs. It’s the fastest way to learn those key lessons --- because, let’s be real, you don’t know what you don’t know. There will always be people who are secretly wishing for you to fail; ignore them! Instead, focus on the entrepreneurs around you --- there’s a whole secret network of people lifting each other up. They genuinely want to help others succeed, so use that support to your advantage.
Building The Revenue Method® as a system-agnostic advisory firm was one of those bold moves I could make with confidence. My vision was to offer independent, unbiased advisory services to the rental housing industry, a stance that’s often hard to maintain under software-provider contracts. But I knew integrity had to be at the core of my business, and being able to stay independent is something I’m deeply proud of.
The journey has also taught me the value of giving back to this community that’s lifted me up. Creating the Talent Dish on my website, a platform to support job seekers who are OPEN TO WORK in our industry, was one way I could offer real help and connection. It’s my way of building a bridge for others, amplifying their voices, and saying, “You’ve got this; I’m here to help.” Check out our featured candidates here.
I'm thrilled to see others following suit. Now, recruiting firms and individual recruiters are stepping up with their own talent and elevator spotlights, shining a light on candidates who are OPEN TO WORK in rental housing. When you lead with purpose, you inspire others to follow, creating an entire movement of support and visibility. This makes my heart happy.

If this doesn't inspire you, I don't know what will. It's incredible to see so many giving back to our community and lifting each other up!
And let’s talk about growth. Growth doesn’t end when you reach the title of CEO; it’s a daily journey of self-investment and intentional living. To all the women considering a similar leap, I can tell you: there’s no limit to what you can achieve.
My journey to entrepreneurship has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve faced challenges, learned valuable lessons, and I can confidently say age has only added to my strength and perspective. I’m having the time of my life!
My advice? Never stop learning, never stop growing. If I can help you on your journey, be a guide or mentor, you have my digits. Give me a ring.
Until then,
J Schu
